The Business Development Tax Credit (BTC) Program supports job creation, capital investment, training, and the location or retention of corporate headquarters by providing companies with refundable tax credits. Eligible businesses include those with fewer than 500 employees and at least 12 months of operating.

Another program available to businesses in the Menomonie area is called ExporTech™, an export acceleration program delivered in partnership with the Wisconsin Manufacturing Extension Partnership (WMEP) and the Northwest Wisconsin Manufacturing Outreach Center with support from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC). This program helps Wisconsin companies expand their global market reach by helping them create a customized international growth plan for the company’s products in key markets.

Since 2009, nearly 350 Wisconsin manufacturers have graduated from the program, each averaging close to $1 million in new export sales.

Business Retention & Expansion Success Story

Through a partnership with the City of Menomonie and the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC), Ellsworth Cooperative Creamery opened its new facility in Menomonie, WI in July of 2022. WEDC supported the project by offering up to $500,000 in state tax credits to the creamery. The cooperative, best known for its cheese curds, succeeded in getting Governor Tony Earl to declare Ellsworth the “Cheese Curd Capital of Wisconsin” in 1983.
